What’s In Your Bag?

With Julian Vega

Years Of Training BJJ I have my bag set up for any occasion! Teaching a class, training, or even going to a tournament!  These are items I carry with me at all times, so let's take a look at what's in my bag!!

1. Traning Gi and Belt—In my bag I will need my Gi and My Belt!!! To teach to train or to compete. I can't ever forget the most important thing!!

2. No Gi Shorts and Rash Guard—I always carry some No-Gi shorts and a rash guard. I always have a rash guard under my Gi and I never know when I'm going to train no-gi, do kickboxing, or just want to walk around comfortable.

3. Knee Pads—My knees are tight from time to time so I have to stay prepared with my knee pads so I can stay safe and keep training.

4. Band Aids and Neosporin—It's not the best first aid kit but people do get nicks and scratches.

5. Finger Tape—Before most training classes or when my finger joints are bothering me I tape them up to prevent any more discomfort.

6. Advil—Head ache or body ache you never know when you need to take pain relievers.

7. Nasal Decongestions and Halls—If for any reason I feel run down and sick I avoid training. But I still need to teach so to make sure my nose is clear and there's no cough I always carry these around.

8. Mouth Piece—I Won't ever train without it! I recommend everyone get one!!!

9. Spare Undergarments—I need to be prepared for any situation so I always carry a spare incase of emergency

10. Ear Phones—If I ever Need to get pumped up for class or a tournament I'll have my head phones ready.

11. Sun Glasses—What can I say? The sun is bright. I take them everywhere I go! From my house, to the school and I keep them in my bag so I won't ever forget them.

12. Pocket Knife—One thing I learned is you never know when you need a pocket knife.

13. Deodorant and Cologne—I want to smell nice for my training partners and for myself. No BO!!!

14. Fingernail Clippers—I don't want to scratch my training partners or have my nails bend back! I try to keep them short as much as I can. If I ever forget to clip them at my house. I always carry them with me!

Things I also carry but not in this picture

1. Water—From staying hydrated to taking my protein shakes I always need water!

2. Snacks—I always bring Protein bars and fruit to the school in case I get hungry!

3. Flip Flops—BE SURE TO KEEP THESE IN A SEPARATE COMPARTMENT!  Flip Flops for the Restroom.

When did you join Elite MMA?

I wanted to train with the best and my brother Julian is an instructor here .

Why did you decide to start taking martial arts?

I came home one time from the Navy and Julian was a purple belt at the time.  He asked me if I wanted to wrestle ,I said yes and he completely made me feel useless. I have never been so scared in my life, the feeling of being defenseless is horrible. I also want to compete in MMA.

In the past what had caused you not to take martial arts?

I was always doing unhealthy things, like partying and smoking cigarettes and didn't want to give them up.

Is this your first time taking martial arts and what classes do you take?

Immediately after Julian's wrestling match I got back to Virginia and signed up for Muay Thai then 3 months later I signed up for BJJ. I also took karate and boxing as a kid.

If you had any concerns about joining Elite MMA, what helped you with your decision?

My old BJJ school was a Pedro Sauer school, old school Gracie where you stay on top. I knew Elite was more guard and I had to unlearn what I had learned or at least adapt!

Since you have been part of Elite, please share what you have been able to accomplish?

I have lost over 25 pounds, I have placed 2nd & 3rd in 2 competitions. Most importantly, I quit smoking and I am in the best shape of my life.

Anything else you want to share with someone who is looking to get involved with martial arts or looking to change their current lifestyle?

I absolutely love how everybody in Elite talks to one another. We all share little tricks and secrets to help each other! We hang out and go out to eat after class and for UFC events! We have the best coaches and they are ranked in the TOP 20 American competitors. Why wouldn't you join?

When did you join Elite MMA?

August of 2013

Why did you decide to start taking martial arts?

I’ve always been the type to worry a lot. I needed something to relieve any and all tensions. I figured this was the best way to become stronger both mentally and physically. I have never been more right in my life!

In the past what had caused you not to take martial arts?

It never really occurred to me that I’d love it so much.

Is this your first time taking martial arts and what classes do you take?

I took Tae Kwon Do when I was really little, but I doubt that counts.

If you had any concerns about joining Elite MMA, what helped you with your decision?

The people definitely! Elite MMA is one amazing and supportive family, and I knew that the second I attended my first kickboxing class. I love everyone involved!

Since you have been part of Elite, please share what you have been able to accomplish?

Overall, I became so much more healthy. My eating habits changed, and I managed to lose a few pounds. Not to mention, I actually gained muscle! I have become so much more optimistic about life and my relationships. As cliché as it may sound, I became a much more confident and happy young woman. I’ve learned to love myself and to always be ready for a challenge!

Anything else you want to share with someone who is looking to get involved with martial arts or looking to change their current lifestyle?

This is the best place to be ever! Anybody would have the time of their lives here. The way one feels after these classes is beyond all words. I love Elite MMA and it will break my heart to leave for college next year. This place changed me and for that, I owe them so much!
